Family
Lifeline Volunteers is an independent 501c3 non-profit
organization. We are connected to the Little Sisters
of the Assumption, our founders, in history and mission,
and consider our program to be part of their family
of ministries.
Family Lifeline Volunteers bring life,
love, and hope to families living in the poorest neighborhoods
of Worcester, Boston, and New York. Without our volunteers,
the agencies at which they work would not be able
to offer the same level of service to the people in
these neighborhoods. Without Family Lifeline Volunteers
there would be no youth programs at Pernet Family
Health Service in Worcester; there would be no Mentoring
and Tutoring program at Transition to Work in Dorchester;
there would be fewer families receiving emergency
assistance and home visits in East Harlem.
In
tight financial times, municipal, state, and federal
governments seek to balance budgets on the backs of
the poor. Funding for programs serving those members
of our communities with the greatest need are reduced
or eliminated and more of our impoverished brothers
and sisters turn up at our doors. One of the first things
many agencies have to do in order to deal with emaciated
budgets is lay off staff. Family Lifeline Volunteers
ensure that services can continue even when funding
is slashed.
The
cost of placing one full-time volunteer for a year runs over $10,000.
This cost barely covers room and board, food, health
care, other insurance costs, stipend, and administrative
costs associated with recruiting, placing, and supervising
our volunteers.
We
need your help to continue to bring together the privileged
and the disadvantaged in a spirit of family. To make
a donation please send a check or money order made out
to Family Lifeline Volunteers and mail to:
