FAMILY IN MISSION

Another name change?  Yes!  In 2010 the Little Sisters combined their lay volunteer program and other province lay groups into one not-for-profit 501c3 corporation. Our previous volunteers were known as Family Lifeline Volunteers (FLV) and LSA Volunteers (LSAV).

Catholic Volunteer Network  formerly known as CNVS

established in 1963, is a non-profit membership organization of 200 domestic and international volunteer and lay mission programs. Currently, more than 10,000 volunteers and lay missioners serve in these programs throughout the U.S. and in 108 other countries.

This page is a resource for alumni/ae of the LSA Family in Mission (LSAFIM) Volunteer Program and the former Family Lifeline Volunteers (FLV) / Little Sisters of the Assumption Volunteer (LSAV) program.

From LSAV to FLV to LSA FIM - The name has changed, but the mission remains the same:
To bring together the least advantaged and the priviledged in a spirit of family to inspire everyone to participate in creating a just society.

In July of 2002 the Little Sisters of the Assumption Volunteer Program was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization in the state of New York called Family Lifeline Volunteers, Inc. In September of 2003, the name change was made public, a new full-time director was hired, and an office opened in Worcester, MA at the Eugenie House volunteer residence. Family Lifeline Volunteers still remains under the umbrella of the Little Sisters of the Assumption, but is now an independent program under the LSA umbrella, much like Pernet Family Health Service, Project Hope or LSA Family Health Service in NYC.

Sr. Janet McCann, foundress of the LSAV program in 1975, initiated the FLV Incorporation process. The Provincial of the Little Sisters of the Assumption remains a board officer and our volunteers will continue to work at LSA agencies and live in community with the Little Sisters.

Applications are received on a rolling basis with preferred starting times being September and January. This is done to facilitate recruitment, placement, community building, and maximize staff time for fundraising, administrative tasks, publicity and recruitment.  If you are unable to start at the preferred times, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Maria Lugo, to see if there may be openings at other times during the year.

We hope that this Alumni/ae section of the Website, its email server, list serve, and future newsletter will help LSA FIM Volunteers, FLV and LSAV alumni/ae to stay in contact with each other and with the program.
